கூகிள் மூலம் சார்ல்ஸ் டார்வின் வாழ்ந்த உயிர்பல்வகைமை கொண்ட காலபாகசுத் தீவுவில் நீங்களும் சுற்றி பாருங்கள்

 Galapagos Islands என்பது அதிகளவு உயிர் பல்வகைமைகளை (bio diverse) உள்ளடக்கிய தனித்துவமான தீவாகும். சார்ல்ஸ் டார்வின் தனது கூர்ப்பு கோட்பாடு தொடர்பான ஆய்வுகளை இங்கேயே மேற்கொண்டார். இவர் கடல் வழியே, HMS Beagle என்னும் கப்பலில், காலபாகசுத் தீவுகளுக்குச் சென்று நிகழ்த்திய உயிரினக் கண்டுபிடிப்புகள் வியப்பூட்டுவன. மனித இனம் குரங்கு இனத்தோடு தொடர்பு கொண்டது என்று இவர் அஞ்சாமல் கூறிய கருத்துக்கள், அன்று இவரைப் பலர் எள்ளி நகையாட வைத்தது. எனினும், இவருடைய கருத்துக்கள் இன்று அறிவியல் உலகில் பெரு மதிப்புடையவை. இவரே மனிதன், குரங்கிலிருந்து பரிணமித்தவன், உலகில் விலங்குகள் மற்றும் உயிரினங்களில் வளர்ச்சி என்பது, 'தக்கன பிழைக்கும்' என்ற கோட்பாட்டின் அடிப்படையில் அமைந்தது, அதாவது வலிமையானது உயிர் வாழும் என்றதன் அடிப்படையில் அமைந்தது என்பன போன்ற புதிய அறிவியல் கோட்பாடுகளைக் கண்டறிந்தவராவர்.

Darwin may have first sighted San Cristobal Island from the water, perhaps near where Streeview team sailed with the Trekker strapped to a boat in order to observe the craggy shoreline and the Magnificent Frigatebirds that the rocky landscape shelters. After landing on San Cristobal, Streeview team made ourtheir way to Galapaguera Cerro Colorado, a breeding center that helps to restore the population of the island tortoises, seriously threatened by invasive species.
